Wall Street: The Occupied Territories

  1. Nice photos, MZ.

How about the media blackout of the occupation? It’s nearly seamless in the States.

In related news, David Barsamian was deported from India for political reasons. http://tinyurl.com/3r8flys

  2. When I told some co-workers that I had gone to Wall Street for the occupation, they didn’t even know what I was talking about.

Score one for the corporate media blackout.

  4. Great interview Mickey. I don’t think the Mass Media here has mentioned the Wall St occupation.

    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue next.

  5. Hey everyone,

While we are one the subject of media blackouts, and I know this is continuously written about ... a real defining feature of the mainstream media, even the more ‘progressive’ outlets, is the complete refusal to admit wrong as a group. Even when they condemn an act by USA/UK forces or bankers or whoever, they are bad eggs. Our society, our leaders our countries - the intentions are always benevolent.

This is, of course, to avoid accepting blame or responsibility.

As a Brit it reminds me of the horrific racist justifications for the empire days. We were spreading civilisation, we were improving the world ... you’ve all heard the rest.

This is why I have to take breaks from writing about it. Looking into the truth is tough. Experiencing seemingly intelligent people’s general attitudes to what goes on in the world, to the environment and to nature makes me sad and sick.

Sorry to rant on everyone. You know, recently we had damning reports from science. Emmisions and pollution are at a 50 year high across the board increasing every year and the tipping point cannot be avoided - showing conclusively that in the years of ‘green’ awareness in the governments and media they have done absolutely nothing.

I just keep coming back to Jensen’s quote. “Every morning I wake up and think do I keep on writing, or do I blow up a dam.”

I guess either way, industrial civ is going to implode. The question now is how hard and how do we go on.

  6. Hi all
seems like the media is also keeping quiet about the nuclear disaster in Japan. Also I noticed that most of Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer public comments that reflected negatively on the US were heavily edited…

  8. I agree with 1,3,4,5,6 - luckily I am working with alert individuals, so 2 isn’t news.

Now I had better be off to the amazing retail experiences offered by 7 - I just can’t resist the well-targeted offerings of chi flat iron. What foresight to post on such a consumer-oriented board.

  9. On 6 ...

Yeah, about the Japan crisis. At first newspapers like the Guardian really went for it, full coverage and they even investigated the IAE and found spills and accidents in the newspapers that weren’t even kept on file or recorded in any way by IAE.

Then, momentum started to build globally among the public to scrap nuclear all together, starting in Germany ... and boom. All coverage minimized and the caveats and cautions came out.

  10. Mickey, I didn’t even realize the protesters were in that little park.  I thought they were on Wall St.  I walked all around that area and couldn’t find them.  If it wasn’t for the fact that Liberty St. is on the way back to my train, I might have missed them entirely.

  11. Yeah, the cops knew they were coming and shut down much of the area. In a way, this was a gift as the occupation became centralized and more like a colony.

P.S. I’ll be putting up a new post soon. See you all there.
