Keep the "Labor" in Labor Day
-
Great article there, Mickey. I like the part about Debs the best. Sad, he is never mentioned in US text books.
I had planned to write a Labor Day article but Irene changed my plans. I would have exposed the lack of justice for farm workers and their families. Children as young as 2 years old have been filmed in toxic farm fields. There is no access to day care, health care, decent housing, livable wage standards, etc. The law does not protect farm workers. Several documentaries have been made. The latest titled “Children of the Harvest”. I remember the old one made many years ago titled “Harvest of Shame”.
About Unions - I support them 99%. My disappointment with them stems from actions taken by the NJEA. They oppose fair pay for support staff in schools. That is an elitist and unfair move by the NJ teachers union.
Locally more rain is predicted. People are getting stressed out again/still. Watching the ‘experts’ trying to figure out what has happened is interesting. Global warming is of course the cause of changes in weather patterns. Vermont is affected more simply because of the topography of the state. If you took a piece of tin foil. Crumpled it up. And then poured water on it, the water would go into all of the low spots. In addition, the soil is clay, as opposed to sand, and therefore does not perk. Simple (but nobody asked me).

Good morning. On labor day, we took a day trip up north to Mt. Desert Island. A place of great natural beauty.
The most ‘popular’ town on the island is Bar Harbor and the story is the same as for many places. Great natural beauty, and the horrible man made environment. This nice little town has become victim of the most dumpster like capitalism.
There is still much beauty on the island but the effects from this sick society have really made a visit there less exciting. The sunrise over the bay, the shorelines are still beautiful as is Mickey’s photo of the Bee.

Joe...There is a lot of disrespect of the environment going on here too. The mountains are defaced with ski trails, but ‘they’ won’t allow wind turbines because ‘they’ want to keep the ridgelines untouched???

A tornado set down near here last night. It is still raining. FEMA and Maine national guard are here. My power was restored at 9 AM today.

What’s more destructive, the tornado or EMA and Maine national guard?
Good luck, RMJ

Good morning Mickey and RMJ...yeah, what will fema and the national guard do? RMJ, I’m sorry you must deal with all of this crap.
I was outside watching a Racoon eating sunflower seeds that fall from the bird feeders. This watching was more meaningful than reading about the lies out of Tel Aviv and washington. The lies have been depleted but there are still many bombs. How fucked up.
On the home front, the local ‘peace’ knitting circle is having a fund raiser so to continue their knit while sleeping campaign.

This Labor Day I learned that Obomber is set to announce Georgia’s indentured servitude program as the way forward on jobs. The next speed bump will be the return to chattel slavery.
Hell-A has been an education this time around. It helps to remember that this place, under all the concrete, neon, and delusion, is a desert. Before too long there will be rattlesnakes in the entertainment industry offices...and a few people will notice the change.

A tense 24 hours just passed as my sister and her family were in the direct path of the Texas wildfires. They had to evacuate and are still not home but they are safe and the fire missed their house.
Anyway, a brand new post is now up. See you all there.
